Skylark Local Happenings | January 2017

January 10, 2017

Just because it's cold out there doesn't mean we become hermits. Here's what's happening in the neighborhood this month, so go forth and enjoy this amazing city and then come by The Skylark for a bite, a nightcap, and a panoramic view of the bright lights and frigid air.

Tuesday 1.17 Winter Poetry with McSweeneys & Bryant Park Bryant Park's monthly Reading Room continues indoors during the winter. No entry fee, just poets reading poetry.

Wednesday 1.18 Times Talks | David Blaine  Times Talks always hosts interesting characters ang David Blaine is certainly no exception. Tickets are still available for this "a rare and unexpected evening of conversation and magic."

Through 1.27 MoMa La Grandi Donne Film Series "A new class of le dive arose in the wake of Fascism, with professional actresses portraying characters imbued with strength, determination, passion, moral outrage, self-possession, and proto-feminist leanings in a male- and church-dominated society. Not to mention their great beauty and grace in even the most unyielding situations. These strong women, le grandi donne, are often taciturn members of family clans in which powerful men rule. But don't underestimate their nascent strength, growing as a formidable force in the quiet realms of home, bedroom, and church."

1.17-2.5 Broadway 2-1 Theater Week! Hamilton not included, but there are still some incredible performances you don't want to miss. Not sure where to start? We trust the ever discerning Adam Feldman on which shows we have to see.

1.31 Times Talks | Ricky Gervais  Expect double trouble at Times Talks with Ricky Gervais - the BAFTA, Golden Gobe, and Emmy award-winning comedian, actor, director and writer in conversation with Philip Galanes, who writes The New York Times' hilarious weekly column "Social Q's," which answers reader questions about the sticky situations they face in every corner of modern life.

All Season: Knicks! Rangers! Sports! Come for a post game bite, stay for a drink or two.
