In The Neighborhood: The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show

February 8, 2019

February 11th marks the start of the New York Fashion Week of dogs. The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, held annually in New York City since its inauguration in 1877, will begin at Piers 92/94 with the finale hosted at the world’s most famous arena—Madison Square Garden, just blocks away from The Skylark.

2,800 dogs across 203 breeds will be showcased, pups competing to be crowned the winner of their breeds, breed groups, and of course, Best In Show. The competition features seven different breed groups: hound, toy, non-sporting, herding, sporting, working and terrier. These winners go on to compete for the top honor, this year selected by judge Peter J. Green, an owner, breeder of terriers and professional handler who’s been in the industry since 1946. The canines (and their owners) will go all out to show the best coat; grooming and prepping with makeup, cornstarch, and sometimes even dishwashing liquid. It gets ruff.

If you can't make it to MSG, head to The Skylark to pre-game your puppy party to witness the 143rd year of this spectacle for dog fanatics and casual observers alike.
